Garcia Clinches USF2000 Title in Style as Argyros Also Wins

PORTLAND, Ore. – An intense climax to the USF2000 Presented by Continental Tire season began this morning at Portland International Raceway with Pabst Racing’s Max Garcia taking a hard-fought victory. It was enough to wrap up the championship in style. Later in the day, a thrilling first half of the final race witnessed USF2000 competition at its finest with a sensational six-car scrap for the lead. Sadly, a chaotic series of incidents blighted the second half of the race and concluded with rookie G3 Argyros, from Newport Beach, Calif., surviving to claim an unlikely maiden victory after having lined up 14th on the starting grid.

Elliott Cox (Sarah Fisher Hartman Driver Development), from Indianapolis, Ind., led both of today’s races, although both he and two-time polesitter Thomas Schrage (VRD Racing), from Bethel, Ohio, had to be content with one visit to the podium.

Foster Continues Portland Domination with Pole

PORTLAND, Ore. (Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024) – The beat goes on for Louis Foster – quickly, as usual.

Foster broke the track record he set by winning the pole last year with the quickest trip around the 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course in three sessions this weekend – all led by Foster.

McNeilly Completes USF Juniors Weekend Sweep in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Liam McNeilly fell a little short of his ultimate goal of winning the USF Juniors Presented by Continental Tire championship title, but the Englishman capped an impressive first season of competition in North America this afternoon by completing a sweep of the Continental Tire Grand Prix of Portland tripleheader season finale. McNeilly, from Brentwood, England, tracked down and overtook Jay Howard Driver Development teammate G3 Argyros, from Newport Beach, Calif., then held off a late challenge from VRD Racing’s Sebastian Wheldon to secure his fifth win of the season.

Wheldon took the checkered flag in second for his season-leading ninth podium finish as Argyros rounded out the top three.

Ferrucci Puts Foyt Team on Pole for First Time Since 2014

PORTLAND, Ore. (Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024) – The ascension of AJ Foyt Racing this season hit its highest point Saturday, as Santino Ferrucci delivered the fabled team its first NTT INDYCAR SERIES pole since 2014 by earning the NTT P1 Award for the BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland.

Ferrucci earned his first career series pole in his first-ever appearance in the Firestone Fast Six, turning a top lap of 58.2046 seconds in the No. 14 Phoenix Investors Chevrolet owned by legendary four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt. It was the quickest lap overall so far this weekend in three sessions on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course at Portland International Raceway.

Johnson Wins in the Damp as Hughes Clinches the USF Pro 2000 Title

PORTLAND, Ore. – Nikita Johnson, from Gulfport, Fla., scored a fine victory for VRD Racing in this evening’s first leg of the Continental Tire Grand Prix of Portland doubleheader season finale. Some distance behind, a measured drive to sixth position was enough for Turn 3 Motorsport rookie Lochie Hughes to secure the USF Pro 2000 Presented by Continental Tire championship.

Hughes, from the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia also claimed a scholarship valued at $681,500 to advance to INDY NXT, the final stepping stone to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, in 2025.

Favorites and Sleepers: BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland

The final road course event of the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season lands this weekend at Portland International Raceway. Chip Ganassi Racing driver Alex Palou has won two of the last three BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland events with Scott McLaughlin scoring the 2022 victory for Team Penske at PIR.

In addition, Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing have combined to win four of the five natural road course events this season. Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren is the only exception, victorious July 7 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Can anyone emerge as contenders to top these teams in Sunday’s 110-lap race (3 p.m. ET, USA Network, Peacock, INDYCAR Radio Network)?

Series Leader Foster Dominates Opening Practice at Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (Friday, Aug. 23, 2024) – Louis Foster is so close to the INDY NXT by Firestone championship trophy he can almost touch it, but the opening practice for the Grand Prix of Portland on Friday proved he’s not strolling in the stretch run of races.

Instead, it’s pedal to the metal.
